An Automated Mapping Problem with a Feature-Driven Solution

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Mapping polygon shapes of varied size and distribution can be a challenging task. Often the cartographer relies upon their experience or trial and error when making the decision over which features to map together. A client requested that QK develop an automated solution for the creation of thousands of map sets, many with dynamic definition queries between map pages. This rendered manual mapping impractical and data-driven pages unworkable. A modular approach to automated map creation, utilizing Python scripting, allows for better management over map extents, scale, and feature queries. Our presentation will explain proven automation methods that save time and money, increasing the value of GIS mapping.
