As urban centers develop, heat emanated by anthropogenic activities and impervious surfaces cause a climatic condition known as urban heat island (UHI). Urban Heat Islands have become more prominent in areas of rapid urbanization due to land cover change (LCC) and are related to certain land-cover types. This also has adverse effects over the population; heat islands make cities less comfortable for living. Most important, deaths during heat waves occur more frequently among residents living in areas with few green spaces. Hyper spectral remote sensing has been applied to urban land cover mapping and to study the relationship between land cover and urban heat islands. Therefore, this study aims to combine different remote sensors to map urban surfaces based on object-based classification to better understand the relationship between surface temperature and land cover.
