Jeff Peters is a Geographer at the USGS Western Geographic Science Center. He uses GIS to estimate community exposure and model evacuation for natural hazards. Community emergency managers use these analyses to plan before future events occur and help minimize loss of life and costs for post disaster relief. Peters recently started working with USGS volcanologists to make their geologic maps available through map services online. Doing so will make these data more accessible for modelers to create volcano hazard zones critical for understanding volcano risks to society before eruptions occur.
